Nicholson Foundation Grantees Pitch Their Work to Prospective Funders On Virtual “Show+Tell”

On April 20, 2021, The Nicholson Foundation partnered with Promise Venture Studio to present Show+Tell New Jersey: Innovations in Health and Early Childhood. The virtual event provided the opportunity for 12 outstanding programs working to improve the health and well-being of children and families across New Jersey to pitch prospective funders for support.

In 3-to-4-minute presentations, leaders from the featured groups—all Nicholson Foundation grantees—described how their organizations are helping solve diverse challenges in New Jersey. Among them:

• Addressing the social determinants of health within communities
• Innovating in the delivery of healthcare and early childhood care
• Advocating for justice for new moms and babies
• Working to prevent and mitigate the long-term impacts of ACEs in the lives of young people

The Nicholson Foundation’s Senior Program Officers Shannon Riley-Ayers and Barbara Kang introduced the event.  In their introductions, they noted that all 12 presenting organizations shared two commonalities: outstanding potential for promising impact, and an urgent need to find sustainable funding, in light of The Nicholson Foundation’s coming closure at the end of 2021.

  Mission: to defend the civil rights of Latin Americans and facilitate their access to healthcare and education, as well as to advance cross-cultural understanding in the Mercer County area. The Futuro Family Program is an inclusive and diverse youth mentoring program for first and second generation immigrant students.

  Mission: to strengthen and expand the capacity of community doulas to serve pregnant and postpartum birthing individuals statewide, and receive NJ FamilyCare reimbursement for their services.

  Mission: to provide education and support in the early identification and treatment of children with health-related needs and to integrate existing services within the health delivery system to make resources more accessible for children and families.
