Replicating the Project ECHO Hub: Technical Assistance to Robert Wood Johnson Partners

The University of New Mexico ECHO Institute is the international replication center for the Project ECHO model. This model is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that uses “hub-and-spoke” knowledge-sharing networks. The “hubs” are expert teams who use multi-point videoconferencing to conduct virtual clinics with community providers (the “spokes”). In this way, primary care doctors, nurses, and other clinicians learn to provide specialty services to patients in their own communities.

This project supports the Project ECHO Institute in providing technical assistance services to Robert Wood Johnson Partners in its implementation of the New Jersey Project ECHO Academic Medical Center Hub that serves primary care provider across the state. The Hub encompasses three ECHO clinics focused on Pediatric Developmental and Behavioral Health, Chronic Pain and Pain Management, and Complex Endocrinology and Diabetes.

The technical assistance includes face-to-face trainings; access to international experts, information, and curricula; participation in mock clinics so that clinicians can practice skills; help with marketing, communications, and sustainability planning; and participation in a learning community.
