A Nicholson-funded report from Advocates for Children of New Jersey explores the harsh realities many parents face in seeking child care. The authors conducted focus groups and interviews to learn from parents the challenges they faced finding safe, reliable, and affordable quality child care for infants and toddlers.
New Jersey Policy Perspective has published an extensive report offering solutions to guarantee that all children in the state have health insurance coverage. Currently, more than 70,000 New Jersey children—3.5% of all kids—lack health insurance. The report identifies barriers to enrollment and recommends 10 concrete actions the state can take to increase accessibility.
Steps to Quality–a public/private partnership supported by The Nicholson Foundation–has released a report detailing three years of work done to improve the quality of family childcare in New Jersey. Steps to Quality helped pilot the implementation of the Grow NJ Kids Quality Rating and Improvement System with providers in low income areas in three New Jersey counties.
On September 22, Arturo Brito, Executive Director of The Nicholson Foundation, delivered a Grand Rounds lecture to the Pediatrics Department at Rutgers Medical School. In the lecture, Brito explained how public policy can be used to improve the health and well-being of vulnerable children in New Jersey.
